چکیده

Forty children undergoing adenoidectomy were randomized to receive halothane (0.5-1.5%) or alfentanil (50 I~g bolus followed by 0.5-1.5 I~g kg 1 min-1 infusion) anaesthesia. All patients received N20 and vecuronium. All patients in the alfentanil group required supplemental boluses of alfentanil (10 lag kg -1) to control intraoperative hypertension. Emergence, recovery and discharge times as well as postoperative analgesic requirements were not significantly different between the two groups. We conclude that both techniques are suitable for paediatric ambulatory surgical patients.

Alfentanil for intubation under halothane anaesthesia in children.

Intubating conditions under halothane anaesthesia aided with alfentanil 20 micrograms.kg-1 were compared with suxamethonium 2 mg.kg-1 in 40 children presenting for day dental procedures. The condition of vocal cords, jaw relaxation and presence of movement and coughing were scored to give the overall intubating conditions. Successful intubation was achieved in 100% of the suxamethonium group an...

Comparison between sevoflurane and halothane for paediatric ambulatory anaesthesia.

We have compared the rapidity and quality of recovery after sevoflurane anaesthesia with those after halothane anaesthesia. Thirty unpremedicated paediatric outpatients undergoing pulsed-dye laser therapy for port-wine stains were allocated randomly to receive either halothane or sevoflurane anaesthesia. Each group received 60% nitrous oxide and 1.0-1.5 MAC of volatile agent in oxygen for appro...

Propofol anaesthesia in paediatric ambulatory patients: a comparison with thiopentone and halothane.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the haemodynamic changes during induction, as well as the speed and quality of recovery when propofol (vs thiopentone and/or halothane) was used for induction and maintenance of anaesthesia in paediatric outpatients. One hundred unmedicated children, 3-12-yr-old, scheduled for ambulatory surgery were studied. The most common surgical procedures performe...
